Proverbs 6:16-19 is an intense scriptural text… “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”  This scripture presents expectations that God has of us.  They are pretty basic for humanity.  Then why are people freely shedding innocent blood?  It is unfortunate that we live in a society of divisions based on color, hate, revenge, religion, politics, gangs, economics and whatever else we can find to cause divisions.

How great it would be if we could all live together in peace, without judgements, with hands of giving in love rather than hands extended out of greed.  We do not all have to think the same but we can all have the qualities of Christ.  Thinking differently is fine.  It is out of different mindsets that we gain creative ideas to make things better for all regardless of race, creed or color.

I was recently asked why I wrote my latest book for black women ministers instead of all women ministers.  First, because I am black and second because there are issues that black people face in this country that white people may not grasp or may grasp differently.  It does not negate white people but helps to build up and inform black people.  It is interesting that in school when we learned from books that were written by and about white people, black people did not complain but accepted the resources.

If, I pray, we can ever accept one another as we are without judgement, we will finally know what Jesus meant when he said, “I have come that you may have life more abundantly.”
