Time Out Rest in the Lord

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

This is a new moment in cyber space entitled, “Time Out”. I thought that it was a funny concept, putting kids in “time out” until I tried it on my grandson and it worked. Time out is used to calm the child down, to help them focus, to discipline them when they act out and sometimes the child just needs to be still and rest. Well, Christians sometimes need a time out. They need to rest, focus or just calm down and I pray this is where you will come to find rest.

Have you ever wondered what it means to rest in the Lord? Simply put, it is “Time Out”, it is a period of prayerful reflection, meditation and being in oneness with and in the presence of God. You have been waiting for a job to open up, you are waiting for a healing to occur in your body, you are waiting for that love relationship…it seems that you have been waiting and waiting and in your mind you are ready to fix the problem; you want to force your way through it all. You are used to fixing things, coming to the rescue, and you need it done now, you want it to happen now. There are some things that are just not going to happen now.

Resting in the Lord means waiting on the Lord… “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”—Isaiah 40:31
it is in the resting in the Lord that we are renewed this is the place where we receive nurturing and support as we wait. There is going to be those desires, dreams and goals that do not come into view when you want them to but you have to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5) Everything that comes is not for us to fix or find a solution to; sometimes we have to understand that as it is—it is. We have to be at peace in that place of waiting. Knowing that you do not have the time table or the answers should give you cause to exhale and relax; the pressure is no longer on you but solely on God. There are times when we work in partnership with God to make things happen but every now and again there are those things that are not manifesting now; it is ok. All you have to do is trust in God and rest in the Lord. You never know what the Lord of the Universe has in store for you that is better than anything that you could ever imagine; let God work it out.

Remember Time Out is not punishment rather it is a period of rest.

Time Out: Lord, I am resting in You. I am renewed as I surrender to Your will and way.
